Obituary of Douglas Lorne GINGERICK

Doug Gingerick of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the age of 89 years.

 

Doug was born in Toronto, ON, on June 15, 1931 and grew up in Ontario and Quebec. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with an engineering degree and shortly after began his career in the Oil and Gas industry. Doug worked for several companies in Saskatchewan and Alberta, settling in Calgary and retiring from Norcen Energy in 1991. Doug was a lifetime member of APEGA. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, and cycling. In his younger days, he liked camping, and waterskiing. He was an avid gardener with world-famous tomatoes and raspberries. He took great pride in growing the biggest zucchini possible every year! Doug was active all his life and was proud of his over-85 ski pass at Nakiska, taking his last run at age 88. He was the grandfather who made sure the kids had bikes and skis and introduced them to the best hiking trails in Kanaskis country.  Doug was a long-time member of the Seniors Alpine Ski Club and Norcen Retirement Club. He played Bridge and loved weekly lunches with old friends.

 

Doug will be sorely missed by his partner Donna Cornea of Calgary, his son Keith (Christine) Gingerick of Calgary, daughter Nancy (Rick) Hewson of Heisler; grandchildren, Sarah Gingerick (Jim Busby) of Cochrane, Tim Gingerick of Calgary, and Megan (CJ) Matthews of Calgary; great-grandchildren, Matthew Busby of Calgary, Devon Busby of Cochrane, and Ella Busby of Cochrane. He is also survived by his sisters, Jean Milliken of Montreal, and Diane (Don) Atkinson of Kirkton, ON. Doug was predeceased by his wife, Jean Gingerick and his son Brian Gingerick.
