Obituary of Herbert Edwin POWELL

April 20, 1937 – Lacovia, Jamaica

May 29, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Herbert beloved husband of Sylvia Powell of Calgary, AB, entered into the presence of Jesus on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the age of 84 years.

Herbert immigrated to Canada on July 7, 1961 and lived in Quebec from 1961 to 1974.  In February 1974, Herbert moved west to Calgary, where he worked at Westinghouse, and then later worked at Sears until in 2015. He had a very strong work ethic and was a very loyal and dedicated employee.

Herbert met the love of his life, Sylvia, in May 1957 and they were married on April 27, 1961.

Herbert’s faith was very important to him; in 1972, he accepted Christ as his saviour. He was very active in the church and Bible Study Fellowship. Herbert was very friendly and made people feel welcome.

He was a very active person, he loved to work out and was still working out in his late seventies. Herbert enjoyed yard work, carpentry, and was very meticulous in all that he did.

Family was important to Herbert. Besides his loving wife Sylvia, he is survived by four children, and five grandchildren, as well as a sister and brother, both in Jamaica. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Herbert was predeceased by his parents, Linda and Herbert Sr. Powell; brothers, Vincent and Renel Powell; and sisters, Gloria and Cynthia.
