Obituary of Erin Patrica DENNIS

October 21, 1977– Turner Valley, AB
May 30, 2021 – Calgary, AB

Our beloved daughter, Erin (Erynn) Dennis passed away on Sunday, May 30 at the age of 43 years.

Erynn was born in the town of Turner Valley, Alberta, to parents Ian and Shelly Dennis. From an early age, Erynn showed an aptitude for music. She studied piano briefly but found the guitar better suited to her lifestyle. She honed her skills busking in the streets of Calgary and performing at local businesses and talent competitions. Like many talented musicians before her, Erynn’s star stopped shining far too soon.

Erynn was absolutely fearless. Once she decided that she wanted to travel abroad, she set about achieving that goal with single-minded dedication. She got a part-time job at a bookstore in the Southcentre Mall in Calgary. She canvassed family members for spare change. Days after her graduation from Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School in Calgary, Erynn was on a plane to the British Isles with $90 in her pocket.

Erynn had joined WWOOF (World-wide Opportunities on Organic Farms), which gave her the opportunity to work in numerous different rural settings such as orchards and sheep farms. Her travels took her from Ireland to Scotland to the world-renowned Birkland Stud where she worked for two years training horses. Later travels took her to France, Italy and Germany, then on to Thailand to study yoga. She got her certificate and later taught yoga. Thailand called her back a couple of times before she settled down back in Canada.

Erynn spent a few years driving carriage horses in Victoria and Hawaii before getting into serving in fine-dining restaurants. She excelled at that as well and often took extra courses to further enhance her knowledge of fine foods.

While not working, Erynn honed her songwriting and musical skills by performing at several open-air concerts.

Erynn is survived by her father, Ian Dennis (Rochelle Feniak), mother Shelly Dennis, sister Terra (Dana) Murdoch, brother Eric Orr, aunt Noreen (Rob Struthers) Dennis, aunt Laura Mae Dennis, aunt and uncle Ruthe and Patrick Dennis, as well as cousins and friends. Also left to grieve are Erynn’s uncles Bob (Dixie) Robb and Tom (Stella) Robb and their children and grandchildren.

The date and location of Erynn’s memorial will be announced at a later date. Since the memorial may be virtual, we ask that, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes be made directly to a charity of your choice in her name. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Erynn’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
