Obituary of Wonona Marlene Haydu (nee Lyons)

Wonona Haydu, beloved wife of James George Haydu, of Calgary, AB passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021, at the age of 83 years. 

Wonona was a lifetime member of the Northminster United Church UCW. She was a member of the Winston Heights Mountview Community Association and volunteered at the Fanning Centre. Wonona was an avid knitter and loved to sew and quilt.  Her most memorable vacation was when she took a trip to Spain with her husband, James, and friends. She will be most remembered for her love of family and time spent together.

Besides her loving husband, James George Haydu, Wonona is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Dave Sharek of Carstairs, AB; four sons and daughters-in-law, Kim and Lorie Haydu, Warren and Sylvia Haydu, Wayne and Debbie Haydu, and Devon and Laurie Haydu, all of Calgary, AB; ten grandchildren, Michelle, Lindsay, Robyn, Adam, Lana, Jennifer, Megan, Colleen, Micheal, and Brianna; and six great-grandchildren, Evan, Claire, Ashleigh, Rachel, Kale, Aurora, and one to be born. 

Wonona is also survived by her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Shirley Lyons of Prince Albert, SK; Barry and Helen Lyons of Regina, SK; as well as numerous extended family and friends. Wonona was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Lester Lyons.

A Private Funeral Service was held at Northminster United Church (3311 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Monday, June 7, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. A recording of the service may be viewed on Facebook or YouTube.
