Obituary of Hope Lilly (nee Glogowski) DRAGSETH

June 28, 1933 - Vonda, Saskatchewan
May 28, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Hope Dragseth was born near Vonda, SK, on June 28, 1933 and passed away in Calgary, AB, on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

Hope was born by the light of kerosene lamps, in the farmhouse built by her father’s own hands, near Vonda, SK. She passed away on her own terms, after two years of declining health, at her cherished home of fifty-four years in The Glamorgan district of Calgary, with Trevlyn, her husband of sixty-three years, by her side. As the oldest of four siblings on the farm, Hope developed a powerful work ethic and strong leadership style. Academically gifted and fluent in English, Ukrainian and French she first attended school in Vonda before accepting a scholarship to Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton, SK, from which she graduated with honours in 1951. She then honed her professional secretarial skills at the Saskatoon Technical School. After several office assignments Hope joined Household Finance Corporation in 1954, and on the fateful day of July 15, 1955 she took the name of a young man applying for a job. He was Trevlyn Dragseth and they married in Saskatoon on February 15, 1958. They spread their wings and moved frequently due to transfers with HFC. Two daughters followed; Beverley, born in 1960 in Pouce Coupe, BC, and Barbara, born in 1962 in Saskatoon, SK. Their final move was to Calgary, AB, in 1962 where they were thrilled to settle and they have proudly called Calgary home ever since. Hope was a busy Mom and an active volunteer when the girls were young. As they grew older Hope was able to once again step out into the corporate world to become a paralegal, working for several law firms in Calgary. She eventually retired as a paralegal with the Gulf Oil Corporation. After retirement, Hope resumed her volunteer activities with several organizations including; Theatre Calgary, Interfaith Society and WINS. Hope and Trev travelled the world and became avid cruise fans. They also enjoyed several winter getaways to Lake Havasu, Arizona where they made many friends. Hope remained active and golfed with the Ladies at Lakeview, kept up with her bowling league buddies, enjoyed theatre and music outings and continued to care for her beloved home. Hope was a professional artist of needle and petit point creations, many of which hang in the family home. She also had a deft hand with the crochet hook and many charities benefited from her creations. Hope was also an amazing cook with an adventurous spirit, always willing to try new things along with the much-requested classic recipes. She also had a “miracle” green thumb and managed her “household forest” with great skill. Hope was always meticulously coiffed, perfectly manicured and beautifully dressed. She carried herself with pride and confidence and stood out in any crowd.

A life well lived and a lovely person mourned.

Hope is survived by her husband Trevlyn Dragseth, daughters, Beverley Dragseth of Victoria, BC, and Barbara Dragseth of Calgary, AB; brother Peter Glogowski and family of Acton, ON, sister Olga Whitlock of Meridian, Mississippi, brother-in-law Lance Collins of Calgary, AB, and, most importantly, her beloved cat Minou. Hope was predeceased by her father Max Glogowski, mother Maria Seeback, and sister Cindy Collins.

At Hope’s request no formal service will be held and cremation has taken place. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Hope’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
