Condolences
Howard was my brother who was always available to drive me around. He kept in touch with so many of our relatives and friends and always knew where they lived and knew his way there, whether in Winnipeg or Calgary. Before we were married he would drive our Mom and myself to visit relatives in Winnipeg, one memory I have was when the roads were icy and few would dare to go out but he had no trouble. He was one of the most personable and fun people I know. I sure will miss him!!!! One time he told me about a time he was in a hurry to cross a busy street, so he took off his red lined suit jacket, turned it around and did a Toreador and safely made it across.
While we were growing up he was such a tease. One day I had had enough and broke his small plastic guitar across his head. He got the message for awhile. In recent years it was always fun going out with him to a restaurant because he always engaged each waiter or waitress into an interesting conversation and they loved it! He was so generous, too, in later years sending me gift certificates for good Lobster meals for myself and another, in time for my birthday. He also was a terrific chef!!!
I trust you will indulge me to send you one of his poems written in his younger years, before he discovered the Pubs,
"A CITY" A city awakens each morning, stirring with the haste of beings; These hurrying, scurrying hoards, With thoughts of maintaining monotony, Who then are these masses, which like precision clockwork, perform their endless duties? Why, you and I.
Beware now, the gathering dusk, Sounding the alarm to hasten, back to the comfort of idleness, A city now less tranquilizing, Nurtured by the masses; Yes, you and I. H.A.H."
I've known Howard since 1962 when I arrived from Ontario and got a job at Eatons. We had many adventures in our Winnipeg days and later in Vancouver and I'll miss him. RIP old friend.

i have known howard since we were 15.many great memories, all good. cant believe he has passed. i'm gonna miss you pal.
Howard was my uncle and also my godfather. I have so many wonderful memories with him including my all time most memorable meal which was the moose meat he cooked for us in Ostenfeld - so absolutely delicious! When Pierre and I visited him him in Calgary a few years ago he showed us a great time and I just knew that had we lived nearby we would be hanging out all the time. The Eaton's model turned Q-Tip will be greatly missed. <3
I have so many great memories of times spent with Howard it would be impossible to tell them all so I decided this one story would speak volumes. About 10 years ago Howard was at our cottage at the same time my neighbour cousins were have a backyard party celebrating their 60th birthday. Howard was invited and he did not know anyone but they were serving beef tenderloins so he ( as everyone knows ) loved food.
There were about 50 people there and in the course of the evening we went in different directions. I kept checking on Howard and every time I did he was talking to a different group of people. I am sure Howard met and talked to everyone at the party and at some point he met someone from his high school and they joined together to sing the school song. That was the Howard I knew...outgoing, warm, great sense of humour, generous and in a profession that suited him perfectly. He was my friend for 60 years and I will miss him
I met Howard in 1969 when we were both new to Vancouver. We ended up rooming together for a short time and eventually worked in the same business. We've had a lot of laughs over the years and he'll be greatly missed by Sharon and I and all that knew him. I'm so glad we kept in touch over 50 years.
Our condolences to all his family.

I met Howard 35 years ago as a fellow rep in then housewares business. I enjoyed getting together with him to share some wine, good food and a card game or two. He enjoyed living in Calgary but rooting for the Oilers. Howard could always make me laugh and for that I will be eternally grateful.
Rest in peace my friend.

I am shocked and saddened by the news! I remember last summer enjoying a visit with Howard, Norma and Ford, Chandra and Kanan in the backyard. Howard was his usual funny self and looked wonderful with his head of white hair. He is the only person I know that used sorrel in his cooking and he came often in the past to raid my sorrel patch.
