Obituary of Ruth Ellen BRANDER (nee Skinner)

July 3, 1932 – Orpington, Kent, England
June 1, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Ruth Brander, beloved wife of Clayton Brander, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the age of 88 years.

Ruth was born in Orpington, Kent, England on July 3, 1932. She served as a missionary in Taiwan from 1960-1973 before finding employment with the City of Calgary from 1976-1997 in various departments including the Law Department, City Clerks Office, and Risk Management. Ruth enjoyed calligraphy, gardening, and volunteering at Centre Street Church. She will be remembered most for her steadfast faith in the love of God.

Besides her loving husband Clayton, Ruth is survived by her daughters, Jackie Maier of Calgary, AB, Joy (Greg) Monsma of Edmonton, AB, and Jenny (Frank) Meliefste of Edmonton, AB; stepson Paul (Kim) Brander of Calgary; grandchildren, Craig Maier of Calgary, Travis Maier of Calgary; Chelsea Haverstock (Mark) of Edmonton, Matthew Monsma (Amanda) of Edmonton, Jordan Schmidt (Serenity) of New Sarepta, Taylor Schmidt of New Sarepta, Jessie Schmidt of New Sarepta, Ryan Brander of Calgary, Clayton Brander of Calgary; and great-grandchildren, James Haverstock, Andrew Haverstock, Aria Monsma, Riley Swallow, Raenah Schmidt. She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Beatrice (nee Hurd) Skinner; brothers, Frederick Skinner, Leonard Skinner; and sister Blanche Skinner.

A Private Funeral Service will be held, on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to join Mrs. Brander’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
