Obituary of Colon Evan Marsman

July 13, 1979 – Truro, Nova Scotia
June 4, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

The Marsman family regrets to announce the sudden and untimely passing of Colon Evan Marsman on Friday, June 4, 2021, at the age of 41 years. Colon is the son of Susan Lynn (Marsman) Paris and Glen Flint, both of Dartmouth, NS.

Colon was born in Truro, NS, however, spent his formative years in Halifax, NS. He was well-liked and an avid basketball enthusiast, including being selected as one of the top basketball players in Nova Scotia to represent the province on the Provincial Basketball Team (1992 & 1993). While attending Queen Elizabeth High School, Colon helped his team win a Nova Scotia provincial basketball championship (1995). His love for sports mainly included boxing, football, and basketball. He was a passionate fan of the New York Knicks and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Colon was employed in the oil and gas and construction industries for many years. Colon was known for his strong work ethic, so much so he was nicknamed “The Force". He participated in and respected the First Nations culture and spiritual traditions. He had a real sense of brotherhood and was fortunate to have had many of his closest friends follow him to Calgary.

He will be sadly missed by his long-time partner, Jessica Mardinger (Calgary), two sons, Jaylin and Zakai; and one daughter Agatha, all of Calgary; brother James “Jaye” Paris (Calgary), two sisters, Melissa (Paris) and Allysa Flint (Dartmouth); uncles and aunts, grandmothers, Phyllis (Willis) Marsman (Truro), and Francis Flint (Halifax). Colon was pre-deceased by his daughter Taliyah Leigh Marsman, stepfather James Paris and grandfather Lorne “Buddy” Marsman.

Finally, his infectious laughter and his great sense of humour will be missed by his broad extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Colon’s Life will be held at a later date. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North Calgary, AB) on Thursday, June 10, 2021, from 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
