Sonja was a remarkable woman, so interesting and full of energy and life and so genuine. I got to know her from the variety of family functions I attended at the Howe residence. And I always looked forward to seeing her there. She was so independent and strong until that unfortunate and stupid bus accident that diminished her quality of life in her later years. She certainly loved her family and doted on her grandchildren. It was lovely to see her excitement of those dancing Xmas dolls at Sonia & Doug's when the grandkids were young. Also she really really liked my bean salad!
My heartfelt condolences to all her family..

I last saw Sonja in 2001 in Calgary. She was grieving the loss of Anthony. Coincidentally, just before visiting her, I had bought three artworks from an aboriginal artist selling them on the street. Before parting with her, to ease her grief, I left her one depicting a ghost bear, a symbol for Amerindians of the eternal presence of the spirit one loved, according to the artist.
And then I saw her beautiful loving smile one last time.

I am very sorry to hear of Sonja passing. I worked with Sonja at Royal Trust. She was wonderful, a beautiful face and soul. We had a blast, working together with Irene Beaton and Gordie Chin.
At lunch time Sonja would often visit Eatons perfume counter, as she put it …..to refresh myself.
I often think of her and all the fun we had together.
