Obituary of Roland Emile BLAIN

December 11, 1942 – Filmore, Saskatchewan
June 22, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father Roland Emile Blain on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the age of 78 years after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.  

Roland was born in rural Saskatchewan and grew up farming, later having careers in sales, real estate and finally in information technology after earning his computer science degree at the University of Calgary. He greatly enjoyed his IT career working for Dome Petroleum, Amoco, BP, PwC and IBM as well as the many friendships formed there.

Dad’s love of golfing and travel took him on many him adventures through the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean.  He was proud to have been able to retire and spend the winters in Arizona with Mom. Aside from his golfing trips, Dad particularly enjoyed vacations with his children and grandchildren to Hawaii, Aruba, Disneyland and also hosting family while in Arizona.

Roland’s memory will be cherished by his daughters, Deborah (Andrew), Bonnie (Ross) and Wanda (Duncan); son Christopher (Claire), and his grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Chloe, Cassidy, Caleigh, Ryan, Kate, Annika and Dylan.  He will also be lovingly remembered by his brothers, Norman (Linda) and David (Zonie); sister Anne (Wes), brother-in-law Frank (Brenda), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Roland was predeceased by his loving wife of forty-nine years Amelia “Millie” Blain, as well as his parents, Emile and Dorothy Blain.
