Obituary of Earl ENGEL

June 19, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Earl Engel of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the age of 93 years, surrounded by family, his spirit going back to God who gave it.

Earl was born and raised in Main Center, SK, on his parents’ farm. He grew to be an amazingly accomplished man, with a beautiful baritone voice and a talent for entertaining.  Earl moved to Calgary, AB during his twenties where he performed in numerous local on-stage performances, as well as singing in the church choir. Earl worked for forty years at Woodward’s and was a well-known and popular fixture there until he “retired”.  Never able to sit around and do nothing, he then worked full-time for St. Giles Presbyterian Chuch until he was eighty years young, gracing them with his hard work, dedication and talent for hosting until he retired for good. A remarkable feat by an amazing man.  He was able to stay in his own home until he was ninety-one, independent and strong.

Everything Earl did was done with such passion and care. From his incredible family meals at every event, to his lush yard and garden and gracious home, to providing the best family get-togethers possible, he blessed our family with so many beautiful memories.  While Earl was accomplishing so many things, you could be sure that along the way, he was always the best dressed man in any room. He cared for his family in every possible way and we know how blessed we were to benefit from his devoted hard work.

Earl is survived by his daughter Lisa Reid (Gregory) of Kamloops, BC, and son Gregory (Sherry) of Calgary, AB, and three beloved grandchildren, Alexander McCreadie, Megan McCreadie and Jarrett McCreadie; as well as numerous and nephews, nieces, great-nieces all of whom he was extremely fond. Earl was predeceased by his beautiful wife Donna in 2014, his parents, Ferd and Katherine Engel; his siblings, Edwin, beloved sister Elda, Wesley and twin brothers, Willis and Arthur.
