Condolences
Gabi and I were greatly saddened to learn that Uncle Erwin had passed away.
I remember Uncle Erwin as good natured, with a warm smile, and a quiet sense of humour that would catch you off guard if you didn’t pay attention. One of our common interests was the history of the Anders. Erwin made an effort to preserve these memories, which are so easily forgotten with the passage of time. He was generous with what he had learned, and I learned a lot from him.
Twenty years ago Erwin gave the eulogy when Granny died. It was not only heartfelt, but also gave the story of Granny and Gramps’ life in Poland, how they came to Canada, and how they made a life and a family here. When I asked him if he could send me a copy of his eulogy he smiled, reached into his pocket, and gave me the original!
Erwin ended his eulogy with words that can now equally apply to himself: “Your journey is over and you now have, not only a place in our hearts, but also a place in heaven.”

To Aunt Elfriede, Cousin Carol, Cousin Linda and all your families.
It was with great sadness that I heard of the passing of your husband, your father and your grandfather … and now great grandfather.
What memories it brought back. I remember all those huge family meals at Granny and Gramps, the kid’s table in the kitchen and the grown-ups in the living room and all those stories, those plans, and especially all that laughter. Once I became old enough to join the grown-ups in the living room, I remember your father as a serious man – it must have come with the job – but with the right story or the right question he was easily teased into a smiling uncle of friendliness. He took an interest in everyone, even the nerdish nephew in the basement.
I’m so glad we had those times, and I’m so glad he was a part of my life.

Elfriede, you and Erwin are two of the most incredible human beings I have ever known. Your kindness, understanding and outlook on life is inspiring. Your acceptance of all people is genuine. It was an honour to be your neighbours in Sherwood Park. I am so lucky to have met you both. I am a better person because of it. Please take good care of yourself, Elfriede. Keep all the memories in your heart.
God Bless,
-Ailsa Casault
