Obituary of Rudolf SCHMITT

June 28, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Randy Schmitt beloved husband of Florence Evelyn Schmitt (nee Kerr) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021 at the age of 89 years. 

Randy was born in Karlsruhe, Germany on November 23, 1931.

Cabinet making and carpentry was his passion. He started working as a cabinet maker back in Germany at fourteen years of age. In 1951 Randy immigrated to Canada from Germany and was working on the Swift Current hospital.  While living there he met his loving wife Evelyn while skating at the local hockey rink in 1952. They were married March 5, 1955.

He worked for Mobil Oil starting in Saskatchewan in 1956, he moved around Saskatchewan until relocating to Calgary in 1963. He worked as a draftsman and retired at 55 1/2yrs old in July 1987 after working there for thirty-one years.

Randy loved fishing with his kids and grandkids especially with his two boats Saurkraut and Sandpiper. Starting in 1978 Randy and Evelyn started heading to Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island so Randy could go Salmon fishing with the whole family. Starting in 1986 Evelyn and Randy headed down to Arizona for three months at a time. They enjoyed golfing and Randy participated in many group hikes.

Randy will forever be remembered for his willingness to help people, especially his family.

Besides his loving wife of sixty-six years Evelyn, Randy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Bob and Joan Schmitt; daughter and son-in-law Audrey and Mike Eady; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Graham) Corsar, Darrel (Judy) Eady, Karmin (Wisdom) Marks, Simon (Helen) Schmitt; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his nephew Peter of Montreal and niece Evelyn of Germany. 

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, July 5, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home .
