Obituary of Andrew Joseph OLAH

Andrew Joseph Olah, beloved husband of Agnes Julia Olah (nee Lovasz) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday June 25, 2021, at the age of 89; two hours short of his ninetieth birthday.

Born and raised in Calgary, he attended St. Mary’s Boys School, worked as a baker and cake decorator at his father’s bakery in Calgary Beltline/Lower Mt. Royal. Following High School, Andrew attended University of British Columbia, graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, majoring in accounting. After University, he returned to Calgary, where he spent a year on the radio with CFCN as a nighttime disc jockey. His true calling was accounting, and he forged a career for over sixty years in the oil and gas industry in addition to providing small business service. 

He married the love of his life, Agnes in 1963 and spent the past 57 wonderful years together. Andrew was an accomplished artist, violinist, a great conversationalist, and cowboy at heart.

Andrew will be missed by his wife Agnes, daughter Andrea (David), and his four grandchildren, Devin, Christian, Sophie and Emilie. He will also be greatly missed by his brother-in-law Les Lavkulich, nephews Greg and Miles Lavkulich; his sister-in-law Irene Toth, nephews Lazlo and Andrew Nagy; and countless friends and extended family in Calgary and Hungary. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Andrew Olah, and his sister Maryann Lavkulich (nee Olah).

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, July 11, 2021at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.  Graveside Service will be held at Sacred Heart Columbarium on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed here.
