Obituary of Jean HELLINGS

May 15, 1929 – Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
June 30, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Jean Hellings of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the age of 92 years.

Jean was born in Moose Jaw, SK on May 15, 1929. Jean loved cooking and enjoyed sharing her culinary expertise with her family. Jean loved her yard and took great pride in gardening. Jean’s house was always open for family and friends. When you came to Ken and Jean’s house you usually stayed much later because of their hospitality. Sunday dinners were a constant staple and we all looked forward to getting together, a tradition that still continues. Family was everything to Jean. 

Jean loved and rescued many pets over the years; she had a great love of animals. Later on in life Jean really enjoyed getting dressed up and going to the Casino on seniors day, where she met new friends.  

Jean is survived by her son Monty Hellings, daughter and son-in-law Stacey Hellings and Don Montpetit; five grandchildren, James (Heather) Hellings and Angela (Jordan) Derdall, Matthew, Myles and Mitchell Montpetit; and four great-grandchildren, Carson and Victoria Hellings, and Lucas and Jacob Derdall. She is also survived by her two brothers, George (Joanne Schafer) and Gordon (Monica) Metka.

Jean was predeceased by her husband Ken Hellings, her parents George and Nellie Metka; and her daughter-in-law Kathleen Hellings.

She was fiercely independent and still lived in her own home. She had a strong constitution, right up to the end. We will miss her very much.
