Obituary of Myrnie Lillian BOYD

April 15, 1929 – Westlock, Alberta

July 5, 2021 – Didsbury, Alberta

Myrnie Boyd, beloved wife of Kenneth James Boyd, of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 at the age of 92 years.

Myrnie was born in Westlock, AB, on April 15, 1929. She graduated from the Westlock School, and then later from the University of Alberta, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Davisburg Quilters’ group, as well as Travel Alberta.

She volunteered at the Calgary 1988 Olympics, as well as at the Okotoks Anglican Church. She worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor, as well as an Okotoks Tourist Information Coordinator.

Myrnie accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of herself for graduating from the U of A, receiving multiple quilting awards, including a first place award for Women's Handicrafts at the Calgary Stampede, as well as her children and grand children’s many accomplishments.

She had a passion for many hobbies, including, but not limited to, swimming, skiing, walking, skating, camping, hiking, traveling, playing the piano, quilting, painting, singing, baking, playing games and spending time with her family. She also had a large appreciation and love for the arts and her family.

Mom loved to travel extensively and enjoyed every trip she took.

She will be most remembered for her warm smile and her love of family.

Myrnie is survived by her three daughters and three sons-in-law, Penny Boyd and Eric Thulin, Lisa Boyd and Bob McCall, Nancy Boyd and Darcy Janko; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Daylene Boyd;  her ten grandchildren and their partners, Sonia Jensen, Jesse and Samantha Thulin, Paul and Erin Jensen, Samuel Thulin and Myriam Durocher, Sylvia Jensen and Simon Dagenais, Katie Burles and Will Warnock, Alex Burles and Falon Walsh, Grace and Patrick Tobin, Michael Boyd and Kathleen Scott, Connor Boyd and Libby Wheeler; and her four great-grandchildren, Keith and Fisher Warnock, Quinn and Zoey Jensen and several step-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Myrnie was predeceased by her husband Kenneth James Boyd; sons Kenneth Sydney Boyd and James Daniel Boyd; parents Myrtle and Sydney Sands; and her two brothers Roland Sands and Sydney Sands.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Luxstone Manor and the Acute Care Unit of the Didsbury Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Airdrie, 300 Towerlane Drive) on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 10:00am. Graveside Service to follow at Airdrie Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join Mrs. Boyd’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
