Obituary of Duaine Murdock FETZNER

November 14, 1933 – Camrose, Alberta
June 27, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Duaine Fetzner of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

Duaine Murdock Fetzner was born on November 14, 1933 and went into eternal rest on June 27, 2021.  Duaine was born in East Bittern Lake, Alberta and was the only son of Ernest and Annie Fetzner.  He had three siblings; Yvonne, Irene, and Corinne and they all lived on a large farm that Duaine worked on and ran by himself after his Father passed away when Duaine was just eleven years of age.  Duaine married Shirley Van Hill on November 9, 1958 and they had four children; Dale, Cindy, Wendy, and Sherry.  The family moved to the interior of British Columbia and  remained there until Shirley passed away in July of 1997.  Duaine married Joan Wilcox Lowrie in April 2001.  Joan had five adult children at this time.  They are Thelma, Dale, Dana, Karen, and step-daughter Nancy.

Duaine was a man of few words for the majority of his life.  But when he did speak, his words had purpose and everyone listened attentively.  The stories about his early married life, the joys, the struggles, the hardships, and the triumphs could be felt by all as he told each chapter of his life with passion in his voice that resonated into the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to be the audience.  The work ethic that he had could not be matched by many.  He was a man of his word, grew up in a time where deals were made with handshakes, respect was earned, hard work was the only way to make a living, and looking after your family was the responsibility that Duaine took very seriously.  He gave his time and talents and loved volunteering for the Lac La Hache fire department, assisting with the annual regatta in Lac La Hache, and numerous other events that were enjoyed by all.  His retirement years saw him enjoying travelling in Canada and the United States.  The winters in Palm Springs were enjoyed by Dad as he could grow his prized flowers and fruit while the snow was flying back home.  He leaves behind his children, step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, numerous family members, and neighbours. All of the above have been touched by Duaine.  The world was a better place because he was in it, and the world lost a true angel the day that he left this earth.  In memory of this wonderful man, please volunteer, spread smiles, tell your stories, laugh, and love without expecting anything in return.  Duaine will live on in all of us as long as we live as he did.  We love you so much, Dad, Duaine, Grandpa, Papa, and friend.  R.I.P.  Well done, Good and Faithful Servant.
