Grace TONER

Obituary of Grace TONER

January 28, 1948 – Wilkie, Saskatchewan
July 6, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Grace Barbara Toner (nee Roesch) of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the age of 73 years.

Grace was born in Wilkie, SK on January 28, 1948. She married Brian Toner and raised a large and growing family in southern Saskatchewan, Australia, smalltown Alberta, and finally Calgary, AB.

Grace accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of hosting large family gatherings featuring endless helpings of meat and potatoes and usually more than one dessert. She was a devoted mom and managed everything from swimming lessons, to summer vacations, to music practices, to Boy Cubs and Girl Guides.

Grace had a tremendous work ethic, and on top of maintaining a busy household, worked part-time jobs at a mens’ clothing store and later as a bank teller. Once the children were grown up, she moved to full-time work and never stopped until her retirement from Enmax at age 68.

She had a discerning eye for fashion and always took pride in her appearance, whether at work or while out dancing and enjoying live music.  Grace cherished independence and sought adventure in trips to Mexico, Europe, Las Vegas and Hawaii.  She also enjoyed quiet time, and in recent years, took a great interest in following hockey and baseball.

As a grandmother, Grace was happy to leave the hosting to the next generation, and to take on the role of watching Sebastian, Benjamin, Kaitlin and Liam grow from babes in her arms to mature young adults.  She loved them dearly and felt great pride in every milestone they achieved.

Grace is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Sheldon and Janet Toner of Yellowknife, NWT; daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Bill Bufton of Calgary, AB; and her four grandchildren, Sebastian Toner, Benjamin Toner, Kaitlin Bufton and Liam Bufton. She is also survived by Brian Toner and his children, Glen Toner, Marlene Mack, Fred Toner and Cathi Toner; as well as all their spouses and children.

Grace is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Mickie Roesch, and by her sister and brother-in-law Margie and Dwight Wittal; sister-in-law Barb Roesch; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Grace was predeceased by her mother Florence Roesch (nee Thille), her father Henry Roesch and her beloved little brother Michael Roesch.
