Obituary of Shui Ying NG

November 19, 1931– Toishan, China
July 7, 2021– Calgary, Alberta

Shui Ying Ng, beloved wife of the late Shun Hing Lam, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the age of 89 years.

Shui was born in Toishan China in 1931. She met and married her husband, Shun Hing Lam, in their early twenties. They decided to start their new life and moved to Hong Kong in the 50s.

They welcomed their son, Kam, after settling down in Hong Kong. Not long after that, along with the booming economy of the 1960s in Hong Kong, they started their own garment manufacturing and export company. While busy operating their thriving business, they welcomed their daughter, Agnes.

After Shui’s husband passed away in the 70s, she decided to immigrate with her children to Canada to start her next chapter in life. Shui became a full-time homemaker in Canada.

She was a devoted Catholic and an early member of the first Chinese Catholic Church in Calgary. She made a lot of life-long friends from the church over the years.

Shui had a passion for exercise. She enjoyed swimming, daily walks, and Tai Chi. 

One of her greatest joys was family gatherings. Shui loved to have regular get-togethers with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Over the holidays, she would host special dinner parties with friends and relatives.

She will be most remembered for her kind, warm-hearted and generous personality towards others.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Followed by Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY at 7:00 p.m.

Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (400 Edmonton Trail N.E., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

At 2:00 pm on the same afternoon, family and friends are welcome to join us at a lunch reception held at the “Central Grand” Restaurant 亞洲軒 (1623 Centre St. NW, Calgary AB).
