Obituary of Carmel MULLEN (nee Holland)

January 27, 1937 – Ashley Park, Nenagh, Ireland
July 8, 2021 – Cochrane, Alberta

Carmel Mullen, a caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 4:20 a.m. at 84 years of age, after a long courageous battle with ALS. She was surrounded by loved ones who will honor her legacy by celebrating life with family and friends to the fullest.

Carmel was born January 27, 1937 in Ashley Park, Nenagh, Ireland. She met her husband Christopher Timothy Mullen in Coventry, England, and they were married February 7, 1957. They went on to enjoy sixty-four years of marriage that stand as a stellar example of a loving union to couples everywhere.

Together they welcomed William, John, Fiona and Leo into the family.  As well, Carmel was blessed to be reunited with her son Andrew later on in life. She was grandmother to ten, great-grandmother to eleven, and a surrogate mother to countless friends and family that were lucky enough to experience her care and kindness.

Family, friends and the simple pleasures in life brought Carmel great joy. She was known for her skill in the kitchen and her great crafting ability, with knitted and crocheted creations shared far and wide. Everyone who experienced her loving personality was forever changed for the better.

Carmel is survived by her husband Tim, daughter Fiona (Jack), sons, Leo (Tracy) and Andrew (Cecilia); daughter-in-law Barbara; brother Liam (Mary) as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends. Carmel was predeceased by her sons, William and John, as well as ten sisters and brothers.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (13 Brower Drive, Sherwood Park, AB), on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the church basement.
