Obituary of Carol Deanne PALMER (nee Mackay)

September 26, 1935 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

July 21, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Carol Palmer of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the age of 85 years.

Carol grew up in Manitoba, originally in Erickson, then Brandon and later in Winnipeg, spending summers at Clear Lake.  She first worked at BMO in Winnipeg, but later switched to RBC.  After moving to Calgary in the early 1960’s, she soon met her future husband Alfred (Bud) while working at the Main Branch of RBC.  Carol and Bud married in 1964 in Edmonton and a few years later their only child Bruce was born.  The family moved around Alberta with various transfers, spending time in Cardston, Grande Prairie, Red Deer and eventually settling in Calgary permanently from 1993 until now.

Carol managed to maintain friendships with a close group of friends from Brandon throughout her life and always enjoyed frequent phone calls with them to keep in touch. She was an avid hockey fan, watching almost every Flames game ever broadcast.  Carol loved the picnics, barbeques and holiday dinners with her in-laws from the Stark and Spence families.  More recently she made many new friends late in life in her final home at Lake Bonavista Village.

Carol leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Ginette; her cherished granddaughters, Avril and Lucy; sister-in-law Lois MacKay, nieces, Randi (Nigel) Wilding and Roxanne (Bruce) Rout; nephew Craig (Lorna) MacKay and their families, members of the extended Palmer family, and numerous friends that she made over the years. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Dawson and Ruth Mackay, her brothers, Bill and Ken MacKay, and her beloved husband of fifty years, Bud.
