Obituary of JoAnne Sylvia ROTZ

February 13, 1937 – Fort Carleton, Saskatchewan            
July 20, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

JoAnne Rotz (nee Dyck) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at the age of 84 years. 

JoAnne was born in Fort Carleton, SK, on February 13, 1937. She was brought up in Rosthern, SK, and had fond memories of her time there on the farm with her family and regularly visited the Tiefengrund Church where her ancestors are buried. She moved to Calgary, AB, in 1978 from Yorkton, SK. However, it was when she lived in Choiceland, SK, that she met her husband, Lloyd Raymond Rotz, whom she married in 1956.

JoAnne was a member of the McDougall United Church in Calgary, AB, and volunteered with the Ladies Fellowship Group, where she met many good friends.

JoAnne accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her children. She was a wonderful singer. She enjoyed nature, and took pleasure in watching the birds and animals outside. She very much loved the multiple pets that came into her life. Her most memorable vacations were spent camping and her trips to Europe and across Canada. She especially loved them when she was with family and friends, as she loved being around people. 

She will be most remembered for her welcoming nature, warmth, love of family and friends, and her gentleness, sense of humor and hugs and kisses.

JoAnne is survived by her husband, Lloyd Raymond Rotz; her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shannon Kelly Rotz and James Skene of Vancouver, BC; Lorie Anne and Thomas Carl Hartman of Sherwood Park, AB; Ardith Dorene Rotz of Barcelona, Spain; and her son Douglas Peter Rotz of Calgary, AB. JoAnne is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Karen Dyck of Saskatoon, SK, Fay and Frank Lamberty of Penticton, BC, as well as nieces and nephews, and friends.

JoAnne was predeceased by her parents, Dora (nee Steger) and Peter Dyck; her brother Harvey Dyck, and her two sisters, Loretta Hayden and Dorene Stephenson.
