Obituary of Albert Guy RANDALL

October 7, 1947 – Lacombe, Alberta
July 22, 2021– Calgary, Alberta

Al Randall, beloved husband of Jaqui Randall (nee McCormick) of Okotoks, AB, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at the age of 73 years.

Al was born in Lacombe, AB on October 7, 1947, and was raised on the family farm.  He attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Al and Jaqui were married in Lacombe in 1969.  Al’s engineering career took their growing family all over Alberta, then all over the world. They lived in Jakarta, Indonesia for seven years, and after settling back in Calgary, he spent the rest of his career working in rotational jobs in Libya, Russia, China, and Kazakhstan.

The time spent living and working abroad inspired a lifetime of leisure travel.  Through the years Al and Jaqui saw every continent on numerous trips and cruises, a recent highlight being a 50th anniversary Caribbean cruise with the entire family in 2019.

Al was a master BBQ chef, renowned for his ability to cook everyone’s steak to order, no matter the size of the crowd.  He was also a handyman extraordinaire, and will be most remembered for his generosity with his expertise.  Almost everyone in the extended family has a barn, garage, basement, deck, car, or tractor that Al helped either build or repair at some point in time.  He also found the time and energy to build his own dream home in Calgary.

He was a lifelong sports enthusiast, as a player, coach, fan, or armchair quarterback.  In particular he enjoyed hockey, and even in his seventies could skate circles around the rest of his family.

After retiring and moving from Calgary to Okotoks, he started volunteering in the community, being a snow angel and preparing tax returns.  He also passed his time puttering in the garage, repairing his latest treasure found on Kijiji or at auction.  Al also devoured television, print, and internet news, and was always happy to have a long chat about local, national, or international current events.

Besides his loving wife Jaqui, Al is survived by his sons, Rob (Laura) and Scott (Becky); and four cherished grandchildren, Carter, Julie, Connor, and Kieran.  Al is also survived by his sisters, Marie, Marg, Marjorie, and Esther (Pat); his brothers, Art (Pam) and Bill; aunt Mary; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here. For those who wish to express their sympathy, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local food bank.

In living memory of Al Randall, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
