Rosa CLAUGHTON

Obituary of Rosa Julia CLAUGHTON

June 30, 1932 – Medicine Hat, Alberta
July 22, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Nana Rosie passed away quickly and peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at the age of 89 years.

Born in Medicine Hat, AB at the height of the Depression, Rosie was tremendously proud of the efforts of her parents, Annie Stepaniuk-Kozoway and John Kozoway, to settle Canada as immigrants. Annual road trips to “the Hat” were a chance for her to share her vivid and colourful recollections about life “in the Flats.”

In 1960 Rosie hit the jackpot when she married Lloyd Claughton. They raised three daughters, Jackie (Darrell), Kathleen (Randy), Gwenyth (Fabio); five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins were vitally important to Rosie and she loved nothing more than bringing everyone together for celebrations.

Rosie never lost her curiosity or zest for life. Visiting, road trips, casino adventures and foreign films kept her young at heart. In addition to her beloved sister Jeannie, and dearest friend Tami, she cherished numerous lifelong friendships.

At Rosie’s request no service or funeral will be held. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here. In her memory a donation can be made to the Salvation Army or another organisation serving the homeless.

In living memory of Rosa Claughton, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
