Condolences
I met both John and Joy in the early 90's, John was the pure definition of a true gentleman who impacted me to beome a better person every time we met. I am sure everyone who knew him will miss his kind and intelligent approach to conversation.

John Maybin was always a true gentleman. He was a friend of my late father and he was particularly kind to me when I first started in investment banking, more than four decades ago. I had the pleasure of working on several financings for Canadian Utilities; and I was able to see up close his calm, quiet approach and his exemplary values. John was simply an all-round first class person, with a kind word for all.
My sincere sympathy to John’s entire family.

John was a founding board member of our Board when Alberta Energy Company was established in 1975, and remained on the Board for next 25 years until EnCana was formed.
His advice and guidance to this young engineer in charge of the company's oil and gas operations was much appreciated, both professionally and personally.
John's obituary tells the story of a Canadian who made immense military, academic and business contributions to his country, his province and his community.
And known to all who knew him as a modest gentleman of great character.
Pat and I express our heartfelt condolences to Joy whose character and contributions made them a perfect match.

In reviewing the personal papers of my father (Bruce Willson) I came upon the appointment notice of John Maybin as EVP of CWNG and NU in 1965 upon his resignation. I am sure Dad would not have left the companies unless they were in such capable hands as John!
Also mentioned are such legendary characters as Murray Stewart and Cy Metcalfe. I did not have the opportunity to know any of these gentlemen, other than through caddying at CGCC, but the culture of CWNG was a positive influence in Calgary in the 1960's.
Our condolences to Joy and family.
John Willson
