Obituary of Barbara Penney

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Penney, our beautiful and caring Mother, Oma, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. Heaven gained another angel when she was called home on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the age of 55. 

Despite her lifelong health struggles, her resilience in the face of adversity was undeniable in the light, love, and laughter that she shared with those who had the privilege to know her. Barb was born to Erich and Erika Schultz on December 16, 1965, in Calgary, AB. Although a first generation Canadian, she was particularly proud of her German and Polish heritage – something she shared with her three sisters. Shortly after high school (James Fowler High School - Class of 1983), Barb started a family while pursuing her love of art. She took classes to further develop her drawing and painting skills, and was exceptionally talented portraying animals in her artwork. 

Barb cherished her family and friends above all else, and was particularly proud of becoming an Oma to her two grandsons and spent as much time with them as she could. 

Barb is survived and lovingly remembered by her two children, Chantal Penney (Brad McArthur) and Chris Penney; two grandsons, Theo McArthur and Michael McArthur; three sisters, Doris (Brian) Adams, Monica Schultz, and Linda (John) Grogan; four nieces, Sabrina Kerr, Jennifer (Bryce) Pierson, Mackenzie Grogan, and Sinead Grogan; and best friend, Marylou Gee. She is now reunited with her parents, Erich and Erika; and lifelong friend, Wayne Howells.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday August 12, 2021, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception at the family’s residence between 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
