Obituary of Helen Margaret Williams (nee Hamilton)

Helen Margaret Williams of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 2, 2021, at the age of 91. 

Helen was born July 26, 1930, in Cardston, AB, and spent her early years in Lethbridge with her family. Her father Gordon worked at the agricultural research station which afforded her access to many pets such as guinea pigs, rabbits, goats, and a horse named Smokey. 

She graduated from Western Canada High School in Calgary, where she met her future husband, Jim Williams. Except for a few years in Edmonton and Fort McMurray during the 1970s, Helen lived most of her life in Calgary. 

Helen was most passionate about golf. She took up the sport in her 40s and played as many as 100 rounds a year.  She was a member of the Silver Springs Golf and Country Club for more than thirty years and managed to score three holes in one. Golf getaways with Jim in the Southern USA were always an enjoyable part of her winter.

When she was not golfing, she enjoyed walks with her children and grandchildren.  She particularly enjoyed the annual family campouts in Kananaskis.  She was an avid Calgary Flames fan and would always watch or listen to the games, cheering the players on. She was also known to have enjoyed a glass of wine or two and even the odd beer when the occasion permitted. 

Helen is survived by her children, John (Heather), Lori Sahebkar (Masoud), and Alan; grandchildren, Parvoneh, Kaveh (Tranel), and Eric; and a great-granddaughter, Maeve. Helen was predeceased by her son Gary in September 2015 and her husband Jim in November 2015.
