Obituary of Hilton Richard STEEVES

June 7, 1941 – Moncton, New Brunswick
July 28, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Hilton Richard Steeves, beloved husband of Evelyn, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at the age of 80 years.

Hilton was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on June 7, 1941. Hilton graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a BSc (Physics) in 1962 and went on to Queen’s University to obtain an  MSc (Solid State Physics) in 1966. Hilton and Evelyn, who were married for fifty-three years, moved from Ottawa, where Hilton worked for the Federal Government, to Calgary in 1981 to join Petro Canada. In 1987 he switched career paths and began opening a series of Italian Food Court restaurants (Sbarro). He loved working with all the young folks and many, many friendships came out of this. He was instrumental in bringing so many people and their families to Canada from the Philippines and helping them establish a new life here.

Hilton enjoyed the sport of horse racing and was an excellent Black Jack player. Las Vegas was our second home. He was always up for a new adventure and loved to travel. “Grampy” dearly loved his daughter Caroline and his four grandchildren, Michael, Julian (Kristine), Nigel, and Virginia. He will be sadly missed by all of us. Christmas will never be the same without Santa Clause (“Grampy”).

Hilton will always be remembered for his honesty, loyalty, and helpful ways by his family and many friends. He was very courageous with his long battle with liver cancer right up to the end.

Hilton was predeceased by his parents, Hilton Sr. and Flora Steeves. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Hilton Steeves, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
