Obituary of Annette Margaret SHILLAM (nee Piers)

December 6, 1958 –Vancouver, British Columbia           

July 27, 2021 – Airdrie, Alberta

Annette Shillam (nee Piers) beloved wife of the late Dan Shillam, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at the age of 62 years. A testament to their love and devotion, exactly three months to the day Annette joined her beloved husband in heaven with the Lord free of all pain and worry after a courageous battle with cancer.

Annette was born in Vancouver, BC, on December 6, 1958 to Klaas and Tilly Piers, with the family eventually settling in the farming community of Neerlandia, Alberta and welcoming her five brothers and sisters. 

Meeting in Barrhead and married in 1987, Dan and Annette settled south in Airdrie where Annette eventually began her impressive career with Canadian Natural Resources Limited until her retirement in 2019. Annette was an avid quilter and skillful sewist, with many an item left at the house for ‘mom’ mending.

You could often find Annette going for a ‘rip’ with Dan on their motorcycles – especially down in Yuma during Canadian winters, enjoying a walk, reading a good book with a glass of wine at their favorite cabin retreat, and always committed to her faith and church. Annette was a pillar within her family and her community, and her absence will be felt for a very long time.

While this has been an unprecedented time of heartbreak for the family and we mourn our loss, we take solace in the knowledge that Dan and Annette are together again and in the grace and comfort of their Lord and Saviour.

Annette is survived by her children Greg (Kim), Kristi, Carrie (Ryan), Dan (Jennifer) ; her six grandchildren; her brothers and sisters; her numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Annette was predeceased by devoted husband Dan and her parents.

Funeral Services will be held at Grace Baptist Church (1009 East Lake Blvd. Airdrie) on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Airdrie Cemetery.  If you are unable to attend in person the service is being stream live at https://youtu.be/ZsMq0cONuT0
