Ruby KAYTOR

Obituary of Ruby KAYTOR

1929 - 2021

Ruby Kaytor passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 4, 2021.

Ruby graduated from Mount Royal College, business program and became a legal secretary, a career she thoroughly enjoyed for many years prior to becoming a mother.  She loved animals and went on to volunteer for the Calgary Humane Society.  Once in the care centre, Ruby became an active member of her community and was instrumental in creating the centre’s humour board, and the pleasure this board has given to others was a constant source of joy to Ruby.  Even during times of illness, maintaining that board was always a top priority for her.
Ruby thought of herself as being spiritual rather than religious and had an implicit trust in God.  She genuinely cared for others; and despite battling Multiple Sclerosis, she never lost her sense of humour, cheerful disposition, and positive attitude.  She was truly an inspiration to all the lives she touched.
Ruby is survived and deeply missed by her devoted husband of seventy years and by her loving daughter.

At Ruby’s request there will be no funeral. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Calgary Humane Society, 4455 – 110th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB  T2C 2T7, Telephone: (403)205-4455, www.calgaryhumane.ca.

Ruby’s family offer their deep, heartfelt thanks to Dr. MacArthur and the staff at Father Lacombe Care Centre for their kindness and compassion, for the wonderful care they took of Ruby, and for their friendship with her.

"You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because
she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray
that she’ll come back,
or you can open your eyes
and see all she’s left.
Your heart can be empty because
you can’t see her, or you can
be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back
on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow
because of yesterday.
You can remember her and
only that she’s gone, or you can
cherish her memory
and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back,
or you can do what she’d want:
smile, open your eyes,
love and go on."
