Obituary of Gerald E. Young

August 6, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta
Gerald (Gerry) E. Young of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on the morning of Friday, August 6, 2021 at the age of 83 years.
Gerry was born in Radville, Saskatchewan, and lived in Regina and Vancouver before joining the army and going with them to serve in Germany. On his return he went back to Regina to resume his education and met his wife, Barbara, at Regina College. After further studies at the University of Saskatchewan, Gerry and Barb moved to Calgary to work in the growing oil and gas industry.
Gerry was an avid outdoorsman enjoying camping, hiking, sailing, canoeing, climbing, gardening - all usually with camera in hand. Photography was a passion which turned into a career upon his retirement from oil and gas. Gerry wore many hats throughout his life: military veteran, computer specialist at Chevron and Petro-Canada, photographer, stock dabbler, husband, father and grandfather. He was a constant life learner - earning his Master Gardener designation at the age of 81.
Gerry is survived by his wife Barbara, three children, Jennifer Ferguson Young (Ryan), David Young (Jessica), and Deborah Young (Rob Woolner). He was fortunate to have six wonderful grandchildren who he adored, Alek Young, Parker and Austin Ferguson Young, Henry and Isadora Young and Gabriella Woolner. He is also survived by his stepsister Pat Klassen, as well as many nieces and nephews, including Alan and Phil Lawrence who each lived with Gerry and Barb for several years. He was predeceased by his parents, and sisters, Faye and Gwen.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at McInnis & Holloway Crowfoot (82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, Alberta). Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
In living memory of Gerald Young, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
