Obituary of Donald Robert BROCK
March 20, 1956 – Regina, Saskatchewan
July 24, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta
Don Brock of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021, 2021 at the age of 65 years.
Don was third child born in a family of five children to Patricia Louise Brock and Robert Harvey Brock in Regina, SK. Don grew up for the most part in Calgary and was an outdoors guy, skiing and then racing downhill for a time before his entrepreneurial skills were set in motion. His venture into the irrigation sector was with his father Bobby, and his wonderful four-legged pal Harley. Self -taught, and with extraordinary work ethic, and wonderful people skills he developed this business into the strong recognized brand it is today. He then ventured into a second business in his “shop” and also grew this brand in the Calgary area into a highly successful business. He was extremely proud of his employees, his clients and the many companies he felt privileged to work with. His skill and dedication to “doing the job right,” is everywhere in the City- a terrific legacy to his years of considerable work.
He met the true love of his life, Linda as a young man, and they carved out a treasured time together that would span four decades and included much building – both in their business and personal lives. They did not sit idly and watch the world, they became part of it in their travels and learning adventures in Costa Rica where they had many friends. “Buenos amigos por siempre.”
Don had a passion for collections, antiques, cars, music and art – and “other little odds and ends” that were important to him in his life. He reminded friends and family from time to time that he would “get to it all”- somehow! This was his quiet joy. He valued quality work.
Sitting with Don could bring on interesting conversation, he was a terrifically staunch Calgarian and Albertan and from his perspective he was always correct!! From history to politics to music and art he covered it all and he could be very persuasive! He was a deep thinker who cared. Many thanks for your wisdom Don. Don lived his life fully, with integrity and loved his family truly. The time we have does not cover the time we think we have. You have given us many happy memories, Dude.
Don will be deeply missed by Janalyn Brock, Glenda Bowman, Lynn Miller, Murray Brock, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. “We will miss our loving “Dude” – a brother like no other.” He was predeceased by his devoted wife Linda of over forty years, his mother Patricia Louise Brock, and his father Robert Harvey Brock.
A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Brock’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
