Obituary of Richard John Hipson

October 11, 1937 – August 8, 2021

 

Jack Hipson, beloved husband of the late Georgina Hipson (nee Russell), passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at the age of 83, with family by his side.

 

Jack was born on October 11, 1937 in Kingston, ON. He started his career in the Royal Canadian Air Force which took him from Ontario to Vancouver Island, BC, where he met the love of his life Georgina in Parksville, BC, and together with love raised three children. After getting out of the Air Force, Jack started a career in the printing business and was a Production Manager at various newspapers on Vancouver Island, BC. In 1980, Jack and Georgina moved to Calgary, AB, where he continued a printing career until his retirement.

 

Jack will be remembered for his sense of humour, calmness, patience and love of family and friends. As they walked together, Jack always had his arm around Georgina a true testament to their love. Jack enjoyed many activities and hobbies over the years, and for the past twelve years was an active member of MAAC and AMAS, flying and building model airplanes.

 

Jack is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Ron) Van Mierlo of Calgary, AB, and Donna (Larry) Mussell of Lethbridge, AB; brothers, Larry (Dorothy) Hipson of North Vancouver, BC, and Bill (Margaret) Hipson of Calgary, AB; and sister Dianne (John) Gibbs of Edmonton, AB. He also leaves behind to cherish his memories, grandchildren, Ryan (Danielle) Van Mierlo, and Michele (Dean) Mayan; and great-grandchildren, Coen, Jordan, and Willow, plus many friends, extended family and loved ones. He was predeceased by his loving wife of sixty years Georgina (nee Russell) in 2019, his son Richard John (“Jack”) Hipson in 2015, sister Beverly Ann Hipson, and parents, Maj. William J. (“Bill”) Hipson and Alice C. Hipson (nee Harmer).
