Obituary of Andrew John Matovich

March 25, 1929 – Trail, British Columbia

August 9, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Andrew (Andy) Matovich, beloved husband of the late Virginia (Gina) Matovich (nee Waldie), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021, at the age of 92 years.

Andy was born and raised in Trail, BC, but later moved to Calgary in 1947 to attend “Tech” (SAIT). He worked in the oil industry as a Petroleum Landman until his retirement. Andy married Gina on March 22, 1952. He was a huge CFL football fan, and was heavily involved in the Calgary Bantam Football Association as a coach, and was on its Board of Directors. He was an avid hunter, an award-winning gun collector, and had a passion for jazz and big band music.

Known for his generous spirit and charm, Andy will be sadly missed by his children, Susan, Steve (Marg), Mike (Gail), and Marian (Dave); as well as his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Andy was predeceased by his wife Gina Matovich in 2017.

Andy lived and died on his own terms and he will not be forgotten. If friends so desire, Andy wished for memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Bantam Football Association.
