Obituary of Glenn Philip CHUGG
December 16, 1927 – Calgary, Alberta
August 7, 2021- Calgary, Alberta
Glenn Chugg passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the age of 93 years.
Glenn was born in Fort Macleod in 1927. His love for sports started at a young age and his favorite activities as a child were baseball and hockey. When he was 21 years old, he attended a dance in Lethbridge where he met the love of his life, Jean. After only eight dates, he asked for her hand in marriage and the two became husband and wife in 1949. In 1955 they moved into their home in Haysboro where they have lived happily ever since.
Glenn worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway as a train engineer for 41 years. Once retired, he and Jean traveled the world on cruise ships and spent their time in Calgary being active members of the senior’s dance community. Glenn was an avid athlete who played hockey and golf into his 80s and despite painful arthritis and numerous surgeries, he continued to take pride in his physical well being and health up until his last days.
He was very involved in his children and grandchildren’s lives. He coached baseball teams, attended nearly every single sporting event and special occasion that they had, and he was always there to lend a helping hand or words of encouragement.
Glenn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Those who knew him are honoured to have had such a wonderful man in their lives. His memory will live on through the wonderful lessons that he taught us all throughout his 93 years of life.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife Jean, his eldest son Cal (Karen), his grandchildren, Phil (Anna), Victoria (Ian), and Jocelyn (Trevor); and his great-grandchildren Sally, Jack, Roger, Arthur, and Isabelle. He was predeceased by his youngest son Lloyd.
