Obituary of Ramona June Alexander (nee Dewhirst)

October 13, 1930 – Calgary, Alberta
August 8, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of June at the age of 90 years, a much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.

June was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and attended Western Canada High School and later worked at the United Grain Growers.  In 1951 June participated in the Calgary Stampede Queen contest where she was chosen as one of the Stampede Princesses. For many years, June remained as an active volunteer for the Calgary Stampede Queens’ Alumni Committee.  In 1953 June married Percy, and lived in the Bearspaw area, and went on to raise three children.  June enjoyed painting, gardening, her love of horses and dogs, but most of all June loved her family.

She is survived by her three children, Gary (Heather) in New Zealand, Rick (Susan) in Idaho, Lyn (Duane) in Calgary; her grandchildren, Josh (Raili), Lee (Olivia), Daniel (Aimee), Shawn, Carter, Reed; and great grand-children, Norah, Cole, Jakob, Levi, Emmy, Jesse and Micah. June was predeceased by her devoted husband Percy in 2013, her Mother June Dewhirst, her sister Dorothy Swanson and brother Gayle Dewhirst.

A Private Family Memorial will be held when international Covid travel restrictions allow.  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on June’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. If extended family or friends desire, memorial tributes may be made in June’s memory directly to the Cochrane Humane Society, 62 Griffin Industrial Pointe, Cochrane, AB, T4C 0A3, Telephone: (403) 932-2072, www.cochranehumane.ca.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the staff at Covenant Care – Holy Cross Manor, Calgary for their love and care to June during her seven years as a resident there.

In living memory of June Alexander, a tree will be planted at The Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes.
