Obituary of Lou Faucher

FAUCHER, Lucien Claude Joseph

October 24, 1941 – St. Norbert, Manitoba

August 13, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Surrounded by the love of his family, Lucien (Lou) Faucher of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the age of 79 years.

Lou and his twin sister, Claudette Smith, were born on October 24, 1941 in St. Norbert, MB. Lou attended St. Boniface Boys College for part of his high school years. He flourished in this small community to become a man of good character with many qualities and of few words. Following high school, Lou took a heavy-duty mechanics course, worked in the nickel mine in Thompson, MB before finding his true calling as a firefighter.

He started his career at the Fort Garry Fire Department in Manitoba, and moved to Vancouver, BC where he joined the Delta Fire Department in July 1971, proudly donning Regimental #25. He had a strong work ethic, was conscientious, and always took pride in his work. Lou served on various department committees during his career and worked his way through the ranks where he retired as a Fire Captain in the late 1990's.

Lou met his spouse of forty-one years, Karonne Tayler, in November 1980 and they welcomed their only child, Katie Faucher, in 1985. He was very devoted to his family and his daughter was his pride and joy.

Lou enjoyed watching and participating in sports. His love for hockey began at a young age on a patch of ice in the back yard and continued well into his fifties playing in a non-contact league. Lou also loved to fly and even managed to obtain his pilot’s licence. Additionally, Lou loved the outdoors and playing on his many “toys” (i.e., snowmobiles, ATVs, etc.) and enjoyed camping, golfing, hunting, fishing, and walking with the dog.

Lou and Karonne retired to Green Lake, BC where they lived surrounded by nature and the peace and quiet. Together they travelled to Australia, took a few cruises, and enjoyed a good number of winters in Mexico and Arizona.

Lou will be most remembered for his epic moustache, his dry sense of humour and his mischievous nature.

Besides his loving spouse Karonne, Lou is survived by daughter Katie of Calgary, AB; his sisters, Elsie, twin Claudette, Pauline, and Lea, of Manitoba; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, fellow “brothers” of the Delta Fire Department, and friends. Lou was predeceased by his parents, Alcide and Albertine, his sister Florence Westendorf, and his two brothers-in-law, John Chomichuk and Peter Leger.

We will always cherish Lou's character, kindness, giving ways, resourcefulness, and not least, his humour. He touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him.

You will always live on in our hearts.

Walk on Lou. Walk on.

A celebration of life will be held in Delta, BC, at a later date, and a graveside service will be held in St. Norbert, MB, next year, 2022.

In living memory of Lucien Faucher, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
