Obituary of Una KANIK (nee Martin)

Una Kanik of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 20, 2021, at the age of 85 years.
Una was born in County Donegal, Ireland on December 16, 1935, and emigrated from Ireland to Canada in 1958, where she married Ted Kanik and made Calgary her home; enjoying a full life surrounded by cherished family and friends. Una fondly remembered her years working with her sisters at the Irish Cottage Shoppe in Britannia. She also relished her years as a member of the Glencoe Golf and Country Club, where she played many rounds with family and friends. She and Ted also enjoyed their fun-filled golf trips. Una was an active, giving member of St. Anthony’s Parish, volunteering with various groups. A kind and loving woman, she will be fondly remembered for her sharp wit and sense of humour.
Una will be greatly missed by her daughters, Marian (Angel) and Lisa (Cameron); grandchildren, Alex and Sarah; and step-grandchildren, Andrea and Melissa. Una is also survived by her brother Edward and sisters, Maureen, Brid, Kathleen, and Kim; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Una was predeceased by her loving husband Ted Kanik; and parents, Daniel and Mary Ann Martin.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340 – 4th Street S.W., Calgary, AB), on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the Church. In living memory of Una Kanik, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
