Obituary of Marion Kathleen Smith

December 8, 1921 – Port Elgin, New Brunswick

August 22, 2021– Didsbury, Alberta

 

 

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Kathleen Smith (nee Fagan), on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the Didsbury Bethany, at the age of 99 years.

 

Marion was born and raised in Port Elgin, NB. She was working in Woolworth’s in Moncton, NB, when she met George, who was stationed there in the Air Force. They were married June 3, 1944. The two of them started farming in the Crane Valley, Saskatchewan area in 1947 and farmed until 1969 when they moved to Red Deer, AB. In 1972 they moved back to Saskatchewan and then returning to Alberta to live in Airdrie, where they retired in 1978. Marion’s greatest passion was her love for her husband and her family.

 

Marion is survived by her son Gary (Linda) of Saskatoon; daughters, Sandra (Riley) of Red Deer, and Janice (Don) of Airdrie; grandchildren, Shelley (Ian), Chad, Carly, Irena (Andrew)and Zoe; great-grandchild Kira, step-granddaughter Shauna (Ann), step-grandson Bryan (Melissa); and step-great-grandchildren, Marcus and Mason; as well as brothers Tommy, Raymond (Emmie); and sister Blanche Hawes, as well as sister-in-law Adrienne Fagan, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Marion was predeceased by her loving husband George in 2009, parents, Frank and Stella Fagan; sisters, Mabel “Sandra”, Armeline, Lenita, and Marjorie; brothers, Frank, Roger, Valerie, Rene and Gordon; as well as a brother and sister in infancy; her mother-in-law and father-in-law Charles and Edna Smith; brothers and sister-in-laws, Rueben and Madeline Smith, Irene and Bud Smith and Isabelle and Ken Mitchell.

 

A special thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at the Didsbury Bethany Care Centre, where she was so lovingly cared for. We are forever grateful for their kindness, particularly during the last days of her life.
