Obituary of Giuseppe Gallo

September 19, 1933 - San Giovanni In Fiore, Italy

August 21, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Giuseppe (Joe) Gallo, beloved husband of Lucia Gallo (nee Talerico), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at the age of 87 years.

Giuseppe was born in San Giovanni in Fiore, a small town in Italy on September 19, 1933. He immigrated to Canada in 1962, followed shortly thereafter by Lucia. They lived in Kimberley, BC for the first couple of years and then moved to Calgary where there were more employment opportunities.

As a skilled Cabinet Maker, Giuseppe was eventually able to establish and provide a remarkable life for his family. He was a devoted and hardworking husband and father who always found a way to beat the odds. He battled more obstacles throughout his life than any ordinary human could have handled. Resilience is a gift that not many people possess, yet one of the most defining aspects of Giuseppe’s character was his ability to overcome hardship.

Giuseppe’s passion was wood-working, and he would spend hours in his shop working on various projects. He also enjoyed making his homemade wine and sharing it with friends and family.

Giuseppe accomplished much throughout his life, but he would say that his greatest accomplishment was his family. He loved his children and grandchildren and would do anything for them. He was kind and generous and he touched the lives of many others as well. He will continue to do so for years to come.

Besides his loving wife of sixty years, Giuseppe is survived by his daughter Angela (Edward), son Luigi (Charlene), and his grandchildren, Austin, Adriana, Devin and Kaelen. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters, and his extended family.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel Of The Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. with Prayers to follow at 6:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday, August 30, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum.  Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Parish Hall. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
