Obituary of Maria COSTA

December 10, 1931 – Santa Barbara, Terceira, Portugal 
August 26, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Maria Luisa Costa, beloved wife of the late Belmiro Costa of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the age of 89 years with her family at her side.

Maria was born in Santa Barbara, Terceira, Azores on December 10, 1931. Maria and her family immigrated to Calgary, AB in August 1971. Maria worked at the Lillydale Processing Plant for eighteen years. Maria had a passion for her vegetable garden. She loved cooking traditional Portuguese food. She was known for her famous soupa de carne (meat soup) and her famous massa sevada (sweet bread). She also loved to travel back home to Portugal to visit family and friends.

Maria is survived by her son Joe, granddaughter Jessica, and daughter-in-law Maria da Lurdes. Maria is also survived by her two sisters, Maria da Lurdes Homem, and Lusa Louro;  and brother John Louro (Nilda), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Our Lady of Fatima Parish (4747 30 St SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. Prayers will be in Portuguese. 

Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Parish (4747 30 St SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Mass will be in Portuguese. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Reception to follow at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB).
