Obituary of Vega Ellen Johnson

May 7, 1936 – Watford, England 
August 28, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Vega Johnson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the age of 85 years.

Vega was born in Watford, England on May 7, 1936. She immigrated to Toronto, Ontario in 1938 with her mother, father and younger brother. Vega graduated from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nursing Assistant in 1970 and enjoyed many years as an RNA.  Vega’s love of God, family, gardening, and music were the joys of her life. She was an ever-faithful Christian playing the piano for several churches in Calgary and later in Kaslo, B.C. where she and Roy spent many happy years enjoying the Kootenays. Her love of gardening was another draw for them to move to the Kaslo area in 1992 where she enjoyed many hours gardening amongst all the Zone 7 wonders. The grandkids will always remember Nana’s delicious raspberry and strawberry jams all made from the fruit of her beautiful garden. After Roy’s passing in 2005, Vega eventually moved back to Calgary and continued her love of music and singing by joining the Calgary Music Makers.  

Vega is survived by her children, Michael, Steven, Susan, Carl, and Daniel; along with Roy’s sons, Rick, Ryan and Randy; her sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Vega is also survived by her siblings, Bill, Eunice, Ann, Leta, and Debbie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Vega was predeceased by her father William Bartlett in 1981, her mother Vega Bartlett in 1998, her brother Bryan 1962, her first husband David Hood McKenzie 2001, her second husband Roy Arthur Johnson 2005.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Marks Anglican Parish (315 A Ave, Kaslo, BC) on October 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Kaslo Cemetery. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
