Obituary of Edwin Albert Singbeil

August 23, 1931 – Mossbank, Saskatchewan
August 30, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Edwin Singbeil, beloved husband of the late of Joan Singbeil (nee Stapleford), passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Ed was born on the family farm, leaving as a young man to attend S.A.I.T. finishing as an electrician. His employment included various companies, lastly with Amoco Petroleum before his retirement.

In their early years, Ed and Joan enjoyed square dancing and the cherished friendships they made during their time with the Hi-Land Square Dance Club. They enjoyed vacations to Hawaii, Mexico and the Scandinavian countries and upon retirement spent their time at the Shuswap Lake cabin that dad built. Many memorable times were spent with family and friends there.

Ed was happiest visiting with others, wiring, plumbing, building, playing cards, doing jigsaw puzzles, tinkering in his garage or shed. He was known for his organizational skills and workshop collections. He housed many random parts, keeping most everything, just in case he or anyone might need a part for a repair.

Dad faced many challenges, the most significant being, the survival of a major stroke at the age of 48, which left him permanently paralyzed on his left side. With great determination, he learned to walk again and as he could no longer work as an electrician, Amoco moved him to their downtown office to work as a clerk. He was grateful for every day lived and often would say, “You never know I might be pushing up tulips next spring.” He never guessed he would live to his 90th year.  So, as he transitions, we hope he has a fresh bouquet of tulips in hand as he meets Mom on the other side, hopefully in her favourite colour.

Ed is survived by his family: daughter Kathy (Rob), two sons, Tim and Peter (Deb); five grandchildren, Joelle (Justin), Jenna (Riley), Matthew, Aidan, and Kate; five great-grandchildren, Zoey, Hayleigh, Weston, Livia, and Jaxon; and brother-in-law Ernie Stapleford (Alexis).  His one sister, Lillian Weiss (Carl) predeceased him.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to staff at Brentwood Care, Dr. Smith and Dr. Peloquin for their compassionate and attentive care. At Ed’s request there will not be a Funeral Service. Condolences, memories and photos may also be shared and viewed here.

In living memory of Ed Singbeil, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
