Obituary of Norma Eileen WEGH (nee Cochrane)

March 10, 1924 – Bindloss, Alberta
September 2, 2021 - Okotoks, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Norma Wegh, our dearly beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Norma passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the age of 97 years.

Born in Bindloss, AB, Norma spent a happy childhood with her parents and nine siblings on farms in Mantario, SK, and Pigeon Lake, AB. Filled with a sense of duty and courage; she enrolled in the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service during WWII at the age of nineteen, and was stationed in Halifax. Upon her return to Calgary, she met and married her loving husband of sixty years, Jack, and together they raised their daughters in a happy home. They later lived an adventurous life in Nigeria and California, but returned to Calgary for their golden years. With her remarkable mix of wit, strength and compassion, Norma left an indisputable mark on those around her. She was truly a wonderful woman and will be deeply missed.

Norma is survived by her three daughters, Laurie (Will), Vicki, and Ann (Rob); seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Jack, daughter Lynn, grandson Christopher, parents, nine siblings, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and son-in-law.

Due to the pandemic, a small memorial for immediate family will be held at Queen’s Park Columbarium. A larger Celebration of Norma’s Extraordinary Life for all family and friends will be held in the spring of 2022, announcement to follow at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed at www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful staff at Tudor Manor in Okotoks. Your enduring care and compassion ensured that Norma’s last years were happy and comfortable, and we are thankful to have you all be a part of our lives. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brenda Strafford Foundation, https://thebsf.ca/get-involved/donate.html.
