Julieta Da Costa

Obituary of Julieta Da Costa

January 1, 1943 Sao Miguel, Azores

September 5, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Julieta Maria Rebelo Da Costa. She passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 in Calgary, AB.  She was  78 years young!

Julieta was born in Sao Miguel, Azores on January 1, 1943, where she met Eduardo. She married Eduardo on April 22, 1962, they then immigrated to Canada in June 1971 and settled in Winnipeg.  They lived in Calgary from 1998 to 2003 and she returned in 2015.

She was a devout Catholic, an unselfish spouse, homemaker and mom.  She had a plaque in her kitchen that read, “My house is small.  No mansion for a millionaire. But there is room for love and there is room for friends. That’s all I care”.  That was truly her. She loved to bake and cook and shared it with family and friends, easily.  She had gone through very difficult health problems over the last twenty-six years and won almost all of them! It was her dementia and her recent strokes that took her away from us.  She never complained and always presented herself to others with a sense of calm, gentleness, love and compassion.  Her demeanor was easily welcomed and loved by all.

Julieta is survived by her children Joe (Greta), Grace, Miguel (Richard); grandchildren, Andrew, Anthony (Victoria), Catarina, Serena and Aidan; her brothers, Valter (Maria de Lourdes), Jose (Lidia), and Carlos (Maria do Carmo), sister Margarida and her notable sisters-in-law, Guilhermina, Manuela and Margarida; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Eduardo Alvaro Cordeiro Da Costa, daughter Paula, her father Miguel Rebelo and mother Maria de Conciecao Martins Rebelo; her brother Manuel and brothers-in-law, Frank, Jose and Carlos.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 11:00 am.  Reception to follow with a light lunch at the funeral home in the Hospitality Center. Interment service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 1515 – 100 Street SE, Calgary AB.
