Obituary of Amy Lorraine MCFARLANE
April 8, 1926 – Creelman, Saskatchewan
January 13, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
Amy Lorraine McFarlane, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 in Calgary, AB at the age of 91.
The world has lost one of the most loving, kind, and sweet souls with her passing. We mourn her loss but are so relieved that she was finally able to move on, as life had been a burden for her over the past few years. Lorraine was born at home in Creelman, SK to Amy and Larry Kaumeyer. She came into this world weighing 2 lbs 2 oz in 1926. Her incubator was the warming oven and they wrapped her in cotton batting. She and her mother were taken by train to Saskatoon in the baggage car and she survived it all. In 1948 she married Murray McFarlane, the love of her life, and thus began her stellar career as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She liked to read, sing, knit and play golf. However, what she really poured her heart and soul into was the care and nurturing of her family. She understood her purpose and fulfilled it with unconditional love, supplemented with her sweet and happy disposition. Mom could be unexpectedly funny too, firing off zingers that both surprised and delighted her family. We feel so blessed to have had such a wonderful example of a life lived simply, contentedly and with much love.
She will be dearly missed by her sons, Jim (Jeanette), Don (Margaret), daughter Cathy (Rand); grandchildren, Jessica, Kate (Neil), Matt, Cole and Jayme and great-granddaughter Ava. She is also survived by her dear sister and brother-in-law, Barb and Cec Chapman and numerous nieces and nephews.
