Obituary of Karen Marie CLARKSON

June 30, 1957 – Dunfermlin, Scotland
September 9, 2021– Calgary, Alberta

Karen Clarkson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the age of 64 years.

Karen was born in Dunfermlin, Scotland. Growing up, Karen was an athlete. She was a track star and was in the running for swimming in the Olympics. At eighteen, after completing high school, Karen purchased a Volkswagen van and made amazing memories travelling across Europe. She held those memories with her for the rest of her life. She returned to Scotland and then went on to travel to Hawaii and across Canada. After coming to Alberta, she never left. She lived in Banff and enjoyed the mountains. Once moving to Fort McMurray, she stayed there for twenty-six years where both of her daughters were born. In 1999, she decided to move to Calgary, where she lived out the rest of her life. Karen loved to read; you would always find her with a book. She enjoyed her community, walking, and chatting with her neighbors. Karen often went to the local library and spent lots of her time there. She had always hoped to one day open her own business, “Natures Nest Products”. Karen adored her girls and spent so much time educating them to be strong and independent women like she was. Karen will be remembered for her independence, her loyal and loving heart, and her strength that carried her to many places and into many people’s hearts. 

Karen is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Lysandra and Clay Anderson, and Sysarah Clarkson; grandchildren, “Bossy Wossy”, Bellamy, and Enzo Anderson. She is also survived by her mother Hazel Clarkson of Toronto, ON, brother George Clarkson of Scotland, and sister Hazel Clarkson of Toronto, ON. She will be missed by “Mittay the Kittay”. Karen was predeceased by her father William Clarkson and her pet, Blue.
