Howard was born in Davidson, Saskatchewan on September 12, 1919 to Benjamin and Edith Paddock.  The family moved to Melfort, Saskatchewan in 1933.  After completing school in 1936, Howard worked on the family farm until 1941.  He then served in the Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1945.

Howard met his future wife, Kathleen Allen, while he was a patient in the Colonel Belcher Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. He was recovering from an accident suffered at the Sheppard air force training facility outside Calgary where he was an air traffic controller.

They were married at Central United Church in Calgary on October 25, 1945.  They spent most of their 64 years of married life in Calgary in the communities of West Hillhurst and Varsity before moving to the Lodge at Valley Ridge.  His last 2 ½ years were spent at Carewest Colonel Belcher.

Howard worked as a receiver for Westfair Foods in the food distribution warehouse for 32 years before retiring in 1984.  He loved spending time with his family and among his favorite pastimes were woodworking, golfing, curling, square dancing, playing cards and camping.

Howard is lovingly remembered by his children, Diane Robson (Bob) and Earl Paddock (Catherine); his grandchildren, Darren Robson (Jocelyn), Michael Robson (Lisa Hardy), Cory Paddock (Andrea), and Norah Lynn Paddock (Ian Hoffman); and his great-grandchildren, Maya, Liam, Alexis, Caitlyn, Samantha, Orson, Berwyn, Conlaeth and Arianwen.  Howard was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (June 30, 2010); and by his siblings, Robert, Muriel, Martin and their spouses.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Carewest Colonel Belcher for the compassionate care he received, with the staff always going above and beyond the call of duty. If desired memorial tributes may be made in Howard’s name to: theveteransfoodbankofcalgary.ca.
