Obituary of Gordon Joseph Bergl

November 26, 1930 - Regina, Saskatchewan

September 19, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Our most cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Gordon Joseph Bergl, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the age of 90.

Gordon was born in Regina, SK, on November 26, 1930. As a young boy he went to school at Campion College and enjoyed spending his days playing baseball. He started his career as a COOP employee and was considering entering priesthood. He decided against this path, when he met the love of his life in high school, Joan Kleisinger. They married on May 18, 1953, beginning their 68 year journey. He began his Oil and Gas career as a surveyor at various companies across Canada. Gordon was faced with many trials and tribulations but during this time was blessed with four beautiful children.

Gordon was a devoted man to the overall wellness of society. He was committed to serving those in need and always having a passion to help people that were faced with unimaginable pain. Gordan was involved with many organizations including, The Mustard Seed, Samaritan’s Purse and Simons House. During 9-1-1 and Hurricane Katrina, Gordon supported strangers by navigating the hardships they were facing with an open and loving heart. He was an empathetic hero to us all.

Gordon was extremely proud of his children and their spouses, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family gatherings were one of his greatest joys and it was important for him to connect with each one of us through conversations and handfuls of Jube Jubes. You could always find grandpa sharing the latest statistics about the New York Yankees and Saskatchewan Roughriders. His dream was to witness the New York Yankees play ball, and for his 80th birthday, this dream came true! Grandpa was always a powerful spirit, and an example to his grandchildren. He had a heart bigger than his physical body, that you could feel by simply looking into his eyes. He will forever live in each one of us.

Gordon is survived by his wife Joan Bergl; daughters Joanne (Ray) Rondeau and Rhonda (Ken) Bertsch; sons Timothy (Mian) Bergl and Jeffery (Heather) Bergl; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Gordon Bergl will always be cherished, deeply missed, and forever remembered.
