Condolences
Lieve Adri, Na zoveel jaren onze communicaties en dan te Lezen, dat Michael is overleden, heeft ons diep geraakt. Ons medeleven met dit verlies. Sterkte voor de komende tijd! Wij blijven in touch! Koos en Eduard
Good afternoon, Adri:
I met and worked with Michael back in the '80's at Alberta Natural Gas. I was very saddened to hear of his passing.
On a professional level, he had the rare ability to match his high level technical skills with a wonderful understanding of the unknowns that were not quantifiable, not predictable and that must be considered in evaluating various opportunities.
On a personal level, I will always remember that little grin that would show up when he was being funny, facetious or maybe just testing something he had just heard. He was a great observer of the human condition and it's participants.
As you said, "What a guy.....". He really was.
In addition to being a gentle and compassionate man, I knew and admired Mike as a fierce defender of his and fellow Bearspaw residents' rights against attempts to develop a large gravel open mining operation nearby. He was at the forefront of the debate against that heavy industrial land use since the early 1990s until very recently - a fight that was won thanks to the tirelessly work of Mike and many others.
So sad to hear the passing of an old friend Mike Edwards. We have known him for almost five decades, since we arrived in Calgary in 1975. Mina and I started our PhD program at U of C when he was finishing up his. Mike and Adri have been our best and oldest friends with lots of memory, wined and dinned tother and we always enjoyed his sense of hummer and kindness. I our early days we had a trip to Northern Alberta where they owned a parcel of land and we mad a bridge over a creek, and called it International Bridge. Mike put us to work, and there 4 nationalities, working on the bridge. Mina I will miss you Mike, but we know you are in a better place now. God bless your kind soul.
So sorry to hear of Mikes passing. We were neighbors at the U of C in the early 70s. We would love to pass on our condolences to Adri. Lynn and Anne Strain
We remember staying with you in 2000. Drinking whiskey together at the garage entrance, watching the coyotes pass by. Adrie a bit upset because we hadn't finished dinner yet ;-) It was very pleasant and a special experience to come over from Holland. Wonderful trips to the Rocky's, white water rafting together. Thanks Mike... we will miss you!

Adri, Peggy and I are devastated at the news of Mike's passing. Mike was one of our very best friends. I recall in 1959 when I moved to Edmonton from Estevan and he lived a few doors from us. He took me under his wing and the transition to the big school of Bonnie Doole was made much easier. Peggy enjoyed his friendship from Grade 4 on. He served on several of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board utility regulatory hearings with me and his unique thinking resulted in some of the best decisions the Board rendered. We both took Engineering at UofA, Mike in Metallurgical and me in Chemical, so we were able to participate in many shenanigans together. Peg and I loved him dearly and will truly miss his smile and kindness.
I so enjoyed meeting Mike at Churchill fitness centre where he and I would battle it out with the lovely ladies in the aerobics classes! He always gave it his best effort and I enjoyed his wit and humour. He will be truly missed!
Marie-France and Ian Nicholls of Ottawa send Adri our deepest condolences. Mike has finally ended his suffering and you stood by him throughout. He was very special - an athlete, possessed of a special sense of humor, a leader, a teacher, an ambassador and a devoted husband. He will be missed.
